As a young child growing up in New Jersey, Daniel was a budding gymnist. On a vacation to Florida his grandfather introduced him to ice skating at a small rink in a local shopping mall. Later that year Daniel and his family moved to Florida and at the age of 9, he began taking figure skating lessons.
